Hub 3 modem mode/setting up tp link router

Apologise if any of these questions are daft but I'm finally taking the plunge to upgrade poor WiFi signal in areas of the house by using another router. If this fails I'm going to have to try a mesh system

I know I need to change the hub 3 to modem mode and plug the new router into the wan connection on the hub 3. Do I plug ethernet cables into the hub 3 or the new routers lan connections? I'm hoping the setup of the new router is easy. Do I enable dhcp on the hub 3 or new router? Sorry if these questions are silly it's just uncharted territory for me

    In modem mode only one cable is used on the Hub.  Cat 6a (preferably) from the Hub to the WAN port of your router.

    It needs to be done in a specific way.

    Set the Hub to modem mode and switch it off.

    Setup your Router with Automatic IP/DHCP ( most are set like this out of the box)  Wait for the Router to stabilise

    Connect cable to Hub as above.

    Switch on the Hub and wait 10 minutes or so.

    Your Router should now have a VM WAN IP and internet access.

    All cables will now be using your Router and not the Hub.  If you need more ports, use a switch which plugs into your Router.

    Try not use wifi to configure this setup, it's much much easier to use a wired connection btw. as the wifi will go off once the Hub is in modem mode.

    Hub access in modem mode is 192.168.100.1 and your Router will possibly be 192.168.1.1

      I already have my hub and own router set up this way. I have received a new hub, so if I put that into Modem mode and plug in my existing (own) router to the wan/internet port will it work as it is now (same router password etc)

        Yes once your new Hub is in modem mode, switch it off.  Connect your existing router to the new Hub, power on your router and leave for 10 mins or so.  Than power on the VM Hub.  After 10 mins your Router should get a WAN IP.

    A default router is simple to setup you connect the WAN port to the hub everything that was connected to the hub is connected to the new router you will have internet then you just go to 192.168.100.1 and change to modem mode.
