How are they able to connect to this

I'm hoping someone network savvy can figure this out?

I have my own router connected to the VM one and some wifi Cameras. I had an older router Asus TU AX5400 and decided to use it as an AP router upstairs to help boost the Cameras.

Setup was easy however a few hours later I logged into the AP router to see a wifi device attached to the AP router.

(Sky light digital limited) - next door to me recently had sky installed

However AP router wifi is passworded so I wasn't sure how it was connected and there was no option to boot it off the wifi. I looked in settings and could see there was a ban list so I did that and saw it was still connected.

I changed the 2.4ghz password and noticed it had been kicked off but didn't leave it switched on long enough to see if it would eventually reconnect.

I did have a look in the settings to see if AP mode allowed other wifi connections even if it had a password and couldn't see anything.

I've posted on a few tech forums and nobody seems to have an answer. Hoping someone here does?

The router I have downstairs also uses the same wifi password but it's never connected to that so if they had managed to crack the password I would have assumed it would have been connected to the one downstairs a long time before hand.

  • Hey mym72, thank you for reaching out and we are sorry to hear router issue.

We advise our routers may not work with any

3rd party router and when they do they may not work as well.

Does the CCTV work directly with the Virgin Router?

Is your Hub in modem mode - with your own router doing the work - or is the router in access point mode?  Your two routers arent both acting as routers by any chance?

The make of a device could in the past be derived reliably from its MAC Address.

Current laptops and mobiles support MAC Address Randomisation, i.e. at will they can change their identity and because it is a random generation, the resulting MAC can be Unknown i.e. matches no known brand, or it can match a brand and that could be Sky / Epson / Sony etc.

Any device on your Wi-Fi does need to have been given the Wi-Fi Password, so you can rest easy it is just one of your devices masquerading as a Sky Q box or similar.

If you're using powerline adapters change the network password on all adapters.
