Hive Hub

My  hive hub does not connect to my virgin router any more. It flashes green continually

Is this a Hive problem or a Virgin problem?  I cannot get through to any technician at Virgin just to ask this simple question.

  • Does the hub status show the Hive Hub as being connected?  Have you tried a different ethernet port?Status from VM Hub

Assuming the VM Hub has not been changed, have you tried a different network cable ?

Quite amazing how many £2 network cables fail in large offices making the folks think a new laptop is needed.

Which Hub?  If it’s a Hub 5 it may need a cheap 10/100 switch put between the Hub and the Hive. There have been users that report problems with the Hive Hub not being compatible with the Hub 5 ports.

Get a better router with 1Gb ports and put hub in modem mode

  • I have a problem with Virgin Hub 5. It worked fine until virgin carried out some updates remotely. Since then the hive hub just flashes green and wont connect. I have followed advice on these threads and have tried

    1. trying various alternative ethernet cables - made no difference

    2. Buying a cheap 10/100 switch - made no difference

    3. connecting via another router - made no difference

    4. called hive who told me virgin media need to open up a number of ports. I have tried, but they dont respond.

    HELP!!!!!

Additionally, I have tried running hub in Modem mode - made no difference.

I have also run the network diagnostic tool on the Hub 5 admin page. With the Hive hub plugged in I get a report of a ethernet device that might be affecting network performance. When I unplug it, and run it again, I get a clean bill of health for all (other) ethernet connected devices.

There is definitely am issue with either the Hive Hub or the way the Virgin Hub 5 is connecting to it.

      Someome must have a solution.

      Hey amerloma,

Welcome to the community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your hive connecting to your hub 5 as BillBudd has stated this sounds like an issue with the Hive Hub rather than the Virgin Media hub. Would you be able to get back in touch with Hive to see if they can send you out a replacement hub?

      Kind Regards,

      Steven_L

      Hi @Tudor,

If you mean disconnect power and wait 10 minutes, then yes I have.

The one thing I haven't tried is a factory reset of the hive hub - primarily because I have about a dozen hive plugs, bulbs and valves I'd have to reconfigure.

  • Given the various tests/combinations of equipment you have tried, the only logical conclusion is that the Hive Hub is faulty.  I have one and it connects to my Hub 5 with no problems in port 3 of the router.

A common reason for a device to stop working is it has been Paused in error via the Connect app.
