Disabling the Privacy Separator Function

I am having trouble wirelessly connecting my computer to my printer and I’ve been told that the solution is to disable the privacy separator function. I have the Virgin Hub 5.

Can anyone help with this please? I’ve tried checking the router settings and there’s no ability to disable it within the dashboard. Many thanks in advance.

    Who exactly told you that?

Have you got Child Safety enabled on your account ?  If so switch it off.

What printer make model is it?  I am guessing it is 2.4 only and may be getting "confused" by "channel optimisation" on that band.

In the Hub settings - try switching off the 5GHz wifi band and also disable channel optimisation for a few minutes and see if you can then connect the printer.  If so turn the 5GHz back on and see how it goes

I was having the exact same problem was an Epsom ET-2810 in my case it was the set up app that told me to disable the privacy separator … I just did what you suggested and printer connect straight away … thanks so much it’s been sending me absolutely round the bend

"Privacy Separator Function" : this appears to be another term for Wi-Fi Access Point Isolation.

A function used on internet hotspots in Airports / Hotels etc to ensure that the public gain access to the internet but are not able to ping or attempt remote access to other peoples mobiles or laptops.

It would stop a Wi-Fi printer from being visible if enabled on a home network, on our VM Hub there are no options to enable such a function & I can ping any device that is on either Wi-Fi band,  i.e. on our VM Hub 3 Wi-Fi AP Isolation is not present.

The question of Hub 5 and passing (or not passing) network traffic between Wi-Fi bands recurs  very regularly, we do not have a Hub 5 so I am unable to test to confirm or deny the issues exists.

From experience network printer / scanners are very much more stable on a static IP and connected via a network cable.
