Hi, Looking for help please on the best way to get wifi in our garden building which is on a separate electricity circuit. We moved house about a year ago and moved BT with us but the speeds just aren’t good enough for our busy house. We switched to virgin recently but with BT the wifi hub worked in the garden building (Ethernet cable installed), I can’t seem to get the virgin equivalent to do the same. Is it user error or do I need something else? Thanks for any advice 😀

Remove the VM Pod from the end of the cable at the shed and attach your laptop to confirm the cable is working.I have recently read a post on forum saying the Black VM pods can work over a network cable as a back haul,but I have not seen the same for the White Pods & they have been around for much longer.I'd replace the VM Pod in the shed with a retail Wi-Fi Access Point or better a retail Wi-Fi Router configured in Access Point mode so as to have Wi-Fi & network sockets. Having you own Wi-Fi kit is so much more flexible because you can configure it as needed.

It's not entirely clear from your description how you are trying to connect/wanting to connect.
Are you trying to use a powerline adapter to link from the VM hub in your house to another powerline adapter in the garden room?
If those areas are on different electrical circuits you will see a big drop in speed via powerline (or maybe no connection at all).
You mention 'Ethernet cable installed' but it is not clear how you are using that (to connect to a powerline device?).
Best way to connect an outbuilding is to ask a local electrician (who has networking skills) or a local data/comm's installer/computer tech etc. to install an external grade ethernet cable between the hub and the garden room. You will then get maximum speed in the garden room.
In the garden room, fit a network switch for wired connections and/or a wireless access point connected to the ethernet link cable.

We have the wifi max package with the everywhere guarantee. It sometimes connects and sometimes doesn’t, just not reliable. Any ideas? Thank you and apologies in the delay.

Assuming your VM Hub is in Router mode, and assuming the cable has not failed, (Gardner's spade situation),
there is no reason why any VM Hub would not be expected to work with a length of network cable from the house to the shed ( up to 100m / 328 ft ).

If your running the VM Hub in Modem modem, then your 3rd party router would be connected to the network cable to the shed & we would expect that to work too.

Perhaps we need to ask what other network equipment is involved, E.g. in the shed is there a WI-Fi Access Point or some kind of Wi-Fi Router, if yes have these been changed from the BT LAN IP range of 192.168.1.xxx to the VM LAN IP range of 192.168.0.xxx ?
