Can I access my home network from outside?

I am just about to sign up for Full fibre broadband and have some questions

My existing Asus router has a built in open vpn server which means that I can access my NAS, Computers and internet and other devices from anywhere outside of home or country.

I am aware that I can connect my Asus router to Virgin hub.

So my question is would I still be able to run an open vpn server on my Asus router (or any router) and still be able to access my local network.

When I applied for virgin about 2 year ago, the version of the hub I was sent could not do this. A certain page was missing/disabled in the config menu and it was meant for a future implementation. I wonder if they ever got round to it or if it's only on specific versions of the hub

Thanks

If the VM Hub is the 5x model, it does not have the ability to switch to modem mode and disable the inbuilt router. Many users have found this to be restricting when they was to use their own router.

  • Thanks, I think it was the Hub 5x comming to think of it.

Any alternative solutions?. I'm thinking this will affect  lots of businesses

AIUI the 5x is not yet being used on business connections

In the last 2 years little may have changed.

VM Business still don't offer services in XGS-PON streets.

VM Residential have been silent for a year plus on the question of Hub 5x gaining modem mode, silent for sufficient time that suggesting Hub 5x may never support modem mode is not called out as being in error by VM moderators.
