Broadband outage

4 days ago as a result of a van fire, a VM Green street box 4 miles away, was damaged and broadband, TV & phones all suffered a widespread outage in DN5, none of this VM’s fault, however everyday since, no communication from VM, no text, no emails no app messages. I’ve checked the broadband status at least 6 times each day and the estimated fix times have been and gone, even the local MP has spoken to VM (didn’t expect that to do anything). Now on day 4, I’ve checked the app again and it’s says no problems, yet the router is still trying to connect and when I use the app to check my service on the next app page, it then says that their is an issue on my postcode. I’ve rebooted the router 3 times each day and still no service. I appreciate that the original fire was not VM’s fault but no communication, no help, no broadband, no phone and worst of all no damn idea when we will have service restored. After 10 years with VM, I’m joining the ranks of looking for another provider

  • All three of our services have been put on the DN4 area for the past three days. Estimated fix time just keeps getting pushed back with no communication at all from VM.

I’ve just rung to speak to someone that said it should be fixed by 11pm tonight. Shortly after the call VM sent me an email with a copy of my bill since I requested it. The problem is I didn’t request it and the bill they sent was for a lady in Runcorn.

  • Hey Charles3, thank you for reaching out and we are so sorry to hear about this outage.

We understand this is very frustrating and we are sorry for any trouble caused.

The team will be working very hard to get this issue fixed.

This sounds like an optical node cabinet, and repairs will takes quite a while. It's powered and the kit inside like optical node module, RF amplifiers, power supply unit, modulator/demodulator might all have been damaged by fire, smoke and whatever firefighters used to extinguish the fire. The fibre going in and the coaxial cabling going out are probably a mess. Bottom line: the cabinet itself with its plinth/base and all contents will need to be replaced. So, this is why all services to all properties have been nuked.
