2.4Ghz & 5GHz Network Names

Assuming I have a 2.4Ghz network on my Superhub 5. Would it appear with the same network name.

Let me explain. My TAPO devices have ceased working and if I try to set them up again, it asks for a 2.4GHz network. Nothing appears showing the network I use for my phone or laptop. I assume then that it has stopped working my my superhub. However a VM network without a familiar number on the options, which I assume is a neighbours network as it doesn't accept my password.

If I try to go on the the superhub settings page ie 192.168 0.1 I am withheld by my AV. Should I just ignore the warning and enter to see if a 2.4GHZ channel exists but has been disabled.

If you guys can understand my problem. Can you offer any advice. Please.

    •    Access your Hub by navigating to 192.168.0.1  Ignore the AV warnings, the Hub is on your internal LAN and is safe to access.
    •    Login with the default login info (on base of Hub) unless you've already updated it.
    •    Go to Advanced Settings > Wireless > Security
    •    Disable the Smart Optimisation on the wifi bands.
    •    Under Wireless Frequency 2.4GHz change the Wifi Network Name (SSID), suggest append _2 to the end.
    •    Repeat for the Wireless Frequency 5GHz, suggest append _5 to the end and click on Apply changes
    •    Try to avoid spaces and periods in the SSID names as they can cause issues with certain devices.

NOTE - This will break the VM Wifi Pods, as they cannot work without "out of the box" setttings.  If you have Pods, just disable the 5Ghz band until you get the IoT working, and then re-enable the 5Ghz.

"Disable the Smart Optimisation on the wifi bands"

Is that a tick box, as I cannot see it and the 5Ghz settings are greyed out too.

  • That was quick. Thanks for the info.

Do you need to change the 5GZ one too as that would require all users to reconfig their devices to the new network name. Can you not just have 123456 and 123456_2? I will try later as I have someone working from home and don't want to take any chances during office hours. I will get back when I've tried your remedy.

Yes, you can leave the 5Ghz band as is.  The naming convention is up to you, just try not to use spaces or periods (full stops)   :-)

  • Out of curiosity and assuming it will prove to solve my problem.

What would have changed to have stopped my TAPO devices seeing the 2.4Ghz band when it has been optimized with the 5Ghz on my  superhub 5 for the last 2 years until yesterday.

    Is there a reason?

Maybe the TAPO devices had a firmware update and now they do not like a combined SSID.

Who knows with the VM Hubs.  I believe there was a Hub 5 firmware update a few days ago?  I also have some Tapo devices and they work fine.  However I don't use any VM Wifi solutions and to date have never had any issues with a combined SSID.

This was updated to LG-RDK_11.6.2-2410.1 on 28th September 2025

I noticed that mine was reverted back to Software version : LG-RDK_7.6.20-2306.5 on 2nd October 2025  (The HTTPS on admin menu with self certificate was also removed)

VM just can't leave the hubs alone when they are working meaning they have to fix what they changed then go around again why modem mode is best.

  • Adduxa. I left a post earlier in the thread you may miss

The setting is Channel optimisation under the heading Smart WiFi.  Also it is under Wireless Signal not security.

OK, I see it. But it appears in "wireless signal" not security.

I assume the other settings are made in security, yes?

I don't suppose rebooting the hub would correct things would they. I'm always reluctant to do that in case I lose my BB on hard wires which I use most.
