  • As usual absolutely no help from anyone epecially the people we pay money to. One should not have to change DNS settings! So people should stop replying with that. It's basic functionality that VM offer which is not working. I called them and they had no idea what i was talking about. They tried to tell me they only block official p**n sites which makes no sense, as there's no such thing! They said they did something on their end but i suspect it was to get me off the line as nothing has changed. Utterly useless and i will be going back to BT because on their the content filtering actually works. I don't want to hear about "not safety net", "your kids can bypass it anyway" - none of that is relevant!? It;s like telling a mechanic the brakes on a car don't work and he replies, don't expect them to save your life in all cases....

      Tuning in

Wow so this has been going on for over a year!! Terrible from virgin media and no hope of it getting fixed then.

The only option is to switch. I can recommend sky. They were perfectly adequate. All harmful sites blocked by default and worked perfectly.

Its funny that this forum is called "switched on families as clearly no switched on families are using virgin media!!

  • I am sorry I don’t understand a single word of any of the replies. I have no idea what DNS is?!

the parental controls are on. I can turn them on and turn them off. But on all devices in the house I can access the things it says it stops you accessing. I am not relying on it as a fail safe, but I expect parental controls to at least do what they say they do when they are turned on. No my teen has not put any kind of bypassing device on my phone without my knowledge (why would he?!?) or my laptop. But the controls are turned on and not doing what they say they should, not just p***n but also gambling sites etc. all accessible on all devices in the house. I am not connecting to a vpn, only my regular wifi. Which is virgin. Do they not come on here and help anymore?

Knowing the AS Name shown at  https://one.one.one.one/help/ will be of help in troubleshooting this issue. What AS Name do you see?

FYI:  DNS is used to lookup a site's IP Address via its name, i.e. example.com 93.184.215.14. Virgin Media use this lookup mechanism to block access to sites by returning the IP Address of their own site, for instance if example.com is blocked then instead of the lookup returning 93.184.215.14 it will return 81.99.162.48.

From the device on which parental controls are not working what AS Name value is report here: https://one.one.one.one/help/? If it is not Virgin Media then it is likely the issue is due to the device's / network's DNS being manually set to use another DNS

To get you over the hurdle whilst VM fix the issue, you can manually set the DNS on the device(s) to use Cloudflare Adult and Malware filters. Set the DNS to 1.1.1.3 and 1.0.0.3 manually. This will bypass the VM DNS servers until the issue is fixed.

Parental controls not working     --- don't assume this is a functional safety net for you or your family.

Does this mean you are unable to enable or unable to save Parental Controls in the VM Online a/c  ?

Or does it mean you have gifted an iOS device to your child, a device that has Apple Relay enabled by default so can effortlessly slide past most ISPs Parental Controls whilst sharing details of the internet usage with Apple ?

Perhaps it means your children have an  Android device and have used a Private DNS to slip by Parental Controls whilst sharing their internet usage with Google etc.
  • I put about vpn because I read other posts and they were all asked by the virgin people whether they had a vpn.
I am not technical I don’t know what’s causing it not to work when it used to. So I need the virgin people to help.

You don't need to be connected to a VPN for it not to work maybe someone or your browser is bypassing it by other means?
