Switching from Sky to virgin

when approached by Virgin sale team about switching from sky I was told I wouldn’t need to do anything and they would cancel my sky account- how do I know if this has been done and how long it will take as my sky is still active and I haven’t received anything from them.

I  would suggest that the operative statement here is "when approached by Virgin sale team about switching from sky....”. ‘When approached’; so possibly a door to door salesman? Who, of course will promise the ‘moon on a stick’ to get a signature on the form!

I’m, going to hazard a guess that they have banked their bonus for a new sign up and absolutely nothing has been arranged with Sky!

Of course I could be wrong, we don’t know the timescales here.

Yes I did check with the engineer and he did say that once his paperwork done it does usually switch but nothing yet. I’ll chase it up I believe I have a 14day cooling off period so if it’s too much I’ll just cancel

        Hi KatyRG,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums. ⭐

We're sorry to hear you've not heard much information from your previous provider. Checking things here, we can see everything has completed as it should. Since posting have your Sky services ceased?

Pop back and let us know.

        Many thanks,

  • A couple of things to note. On the broadband / telephone side there is the one touch switching whereby Virgin will deal with Sky and in theory make sure that Sky is switched off when Virgin broadband is switched on. You won't need (and shouldn't) contact Sky. Sky may contact you and ask you to stay, but ignore that if you want to switch. There is no need though to hear from them. This is an Ofcom regulated process.

TV is different. Virgin can't cancel any TV contract you have with Sky, you will need to do that, and this will be subject to notice period, any remaining contract, etc.

Make sure you keep emails and the like from Virgin.

Yes it’s only broadband I have. I will have to chase it up which I was hoping I wouldn’t have to do. When I signed up I received a text from Sky saying sorry your thinking of leaving but that’s all I’ve had so far but my broadband is still running and it’s been a few days now.

I thought you would get an email from Sky as the losing provider to let you know?  I'd also expect something from VM, even a pre contract email with the details of your new package?  Is you Sky package contract finished?  Just be careful you don't end up with an early termination fee.
