Whilst I'm not able to help directly with the OP's question here, I don't think Alex's reply is on-the-money either.
The OP, I think, is referring to V6 multi-room streaming, where you can access the recording pool of either box using the "My Shows" view and (from memory - I don't have multi-room) pressing yellow.
There's no app involved and no means to remove data - the facility "just works" for the most part.

I can't remember how to rename a V6 box since I've been using the 360 for three or four years, you could however name a box via Home > Help & Settings >Settings > Devices > Name this TiVo box.
It's possible that the V6 box is working in a similar fashion to the 360 box, and VM's internal backend systems haven't updated yet with details of the new box, so this may change automatically in around a week?
