Recordings skipping
If I try to fast forward a recording or pause it the recording jumps from 55 mins to 1h55mins. If I don't pause it and just let it play it is ok. Anyone else had a similar problem?

Is this only on one specific recording, or on anything that's longer than 1hr 55mins.

It's happening on several recordings, it seems to be worse on longer recordings. It's on different channels. I mainly record the +1 SD channels as they take up less space and so that I can fast forward the adverts.
Instinctively I'd think this sounds HDD-related, but I'm surprised the behaviour is so specific.
Try the same test on some HD channels - with MP4 encoding, 1Tb storage goes quite a way. Do you get the same issue?
I do record for 30 min on BBC1 hd, only have problem occasionally on that. What is MP4 encoding?
MP4 is a file format. In the same way as word documents can be .doc or .docx, images can be .img, .jpg, .gif or a few others... VM used to use MPEG2 for video encoding. This was changed to MPEG4 quite a few years back, with the end result being a "new" HD recording uses roughly the same amount of disk-space as an "old" SD recording did.
