On demand error "This show is temporarily unavailable" code 669 on V6 box

I've been getting the above error for ages now when trying to play an on-demand show. In the case of channel 4 OD, I don't get this error but instead, after playing the lead-in adverts, it hangs with a spinning green disc. I even went as far as a factory reset of the V6, but to no avail. iPlayer works, but most others don't.

Today I saw a similar post on here which suggested a link with the output video resolution on the V6. Mine has been set to 2160 since I upgraded the TV and AVR a couple of years ago (which probably coincides with this issue, although I'd never put 2 and 2 together).

So I tried ramping down the V6 output to 1080P and now the on demand seems to be working!

I'm using fairly recent kit (LG OLED C2 TV, Marantz Cinema 70S AVR) and the issue occurs whether I go via the AVR or direct to the TV. All my HDMI cables are latest 8K spec, and when I view the V6 system info it says that HDCP 2.2 is enabled. Since the V6 box supports 4K, I am obviously turning off 4K ability and getting reduced functionality by using this workaround.

So my question is: Do I have a faulty V6 box, or is this a known problem affecting all V6 boxes?

A couple of other weird things make me quesiton the health of my V6...

  • When any recordings stop or start, the channel I'm watching will freeze for a couple of seconds. It has always done this and I assumed it was normal, but a friend of mine recently told me his does not do this.
  • When I did the factory reset, the box went into an endless reboot loop. This forum came to my aid and I was able to get out of it by power cycling and holding "ON" and "-". This seemed to force a software update.

What you've described is an HDCP2.2 . compliance issue. I'd next be checking all potential 4K sources (not just C4-app) and see whether those output 2160p to your TV.

Try the linear UHD channels on 999, 525, 534/535, also VM's in-house UHD OnDemand content via the Box Sets > UHD menu.

The factory reset you describe is a known issue with all V6 - there used to be a pinned post at the top of the V6 section of the forum warning against this, but that seems to have been lost in the (not-so) recent forum software changes.

The channel freezing when a recording starts/stops is normal, if you're watching the same channel that you're recording. It's the recording buffer emptying for the recording to start/finish and transition to/from a live buffer.

Thanks for the reply, and for clearing up a few things!

So regarding HDCP2.2 compliance.... Are you saying that you suspect my TV and AVR aren't compliant? I'm pretty sure they are, but I guess I should go through the settings in case I've turned something off I shouldn't have.

I seem to remember seeing the AVR detecting 2160p input when the V6 was set that way (for all content actually, I think it caused the V6 to upscale everything), but I'll check again. I cartainly have no problem with HDR and DolbyVision content from my 4K player going the same route.

You can connect the TV directly to the V6 to see if the HDCP 2.2 compliance issue disappears.
