My one V6 Box does a software install every reboot

My one V6 box is still doing a software install when it is rebooted. Annoying as you have to wait for it to reinstall all the guide etc and will miss recordings as it takes an age to rebuild the gude etc. I had an engineer out a little while ago and he just replaced the short fly lead to the main cable (I don't know what this has to do with the Tivo doing software installs every reboot though???)

Can a forum person please check my Bedroom V6 box again please and advise whether I need a replacement this time...

  • I suspect there is a bios type battery inside which is dead. If I software reboot through the gui it is fine power off reboot does a software install.

Is it rebooting by itself or as a result of it being turned off at the mains when not in use?

The boxes are meant to be powered 24/7 to receive updates overnight in order to avoid disruption, so if they are turned off they are always playing "catchup" the next morning.

  • no it is not rebooting itself.. There was an area problem yesterday and the message told me to reboot.... So I had to reboot it. However I have noticed whenever I power off reboot  it re-installs software a reboot from the GUI with no power off does not so it is nothing like you have said. I thought I was quite clear. When I reboot with power off it looses all the software on the box apart from recordings a reboot from the menus does not. Therefore I am speculating here that the CMOS battery in the box has now failed and I need a replacement box (which is still the same problem I have when the last engineer came and told me without hesitation it was the fly lead to the box but it was not!!!!!)

I would be most intrigrued to have seen this error message. In all the years I've used TiVo & V6, I have never once had a prompt from the box or any VM website telling me to reboot.

VM can initiate reboots remotely, should any fault rectification require it.

How so? Can you explain what leads you to this conclusion? If you have any photos or videos of the reboot happening, they may assist in further diagnosis.

  • it was the W02 message that then changed to no connection present or something like that and advised to reboot the box.. turned out later there was an area issue with no TV services..

So if I reboot from within the menu's it reboots fine.. if I power it off then reboot it does the software installation.. why do I need to provide photographs of the 'software installation' screen and then you perform the initial set up etc and you then also have to force a connection to get your guide up to date quicker... I really cannot see the pointless questions above to be honest. I have explained what it is doing so I feel I do not need to send pictures do I?

  • Hey fizz,

Welcome back to the community and thanks for taking the time to post. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your TV box. I would be happy to take a further look into this for you but first I would need to confirm a few details via private message, please look out for my message and we can get started.
    Kind Regards,
