green screen of death

Hey all,

Sadly got the green screen of death on my secondary virgin media box in a bedroom. Tried the usual, restart + left alone for 3+ hrs..its still the same.

Unplugged for 30+ mins, tried same as above = same result.

If a member of VM staff is around..are you able to help me sort out a  replacement please?

message reads 'DVR has detected a serious problem and is trying to fix it, do not switch off for 3 hours"

    Hi skyuser,

    I'm afraid yuo are correct,  "the DVR has detected a serious problem and is trying to fix it; do not switch off for 3 hours”. message is commonly known as the green screen of death. It means that your hard drive has failed.

    It's not very often that the box is able to recover from this, and if by some miracle it does, then it's only a  matter of time before it fails completely.

    You should call 150 from a Vm landline or  0345 454 1111  from any other phone and select option 2 (faults).

    Or wait a day or two and a member of the Forum Team should pick this up for you and arrange a tech visit.

    Thanks, I'll try call them tomorrow, but with work its tricky to hang on the phone for long...  fingers crossed i'll get through quickly...else, i'll wait for the forum team to pick it up
