Your TV box needs a free update

I have received an email "Your TV box needs a free update" which tells me that "from 23 July BBCiPlayer will no longer be supported".  I don't want to change from a TIVO box to a TV360 box unless absolutely necessary.

If I don't change I will loose access to BBC iPlayer.  I am willing to loose BBC iPlayer but what other things will be lost if I don't change?

I understand that if I do change I will need WiFi.  Is that correct and would the router need to be on 24/7?

    The TiVo box has already lost access to other features and content, and will continue to do so for the next couple of years. Anything new will only launch on 360 and Stream.  

    If you are happy to remain on TiVo that is fine, you were contacted because you watch iPlayer.  Just bear in mind that other features will continue to be removed as they become unsupported on this now 13 year old box.

     as far as cabling is concerned is it essentially a case of cables that currently link to the TIVO being switched over to link into the 360? I am hoping that there is no fiddling around to carry out at the back of the TV.

    The major difference, and it may not affect you, is the old TIVO had a SCART facility and this is no longer available on the V6, 360 or Stream.

    The existing co-ax should be good for an engineer to use as long as the signal levels are up to scratch.

    However, you will notice the 360 being completely different to the TIVO, which is more akin to the V6.  VM want to do away with the V6's because it costs the Company in TIVO licence fees.  This V6 v's 360 argument rages on here every day and it's a bit like Marmite ...  ;-)

      That, and the separate internet connection. The TiVo had this in-built, whereas V6, TV360 & Stream needs this separately.

      An Ethernet connection between your home-hub/router is the best option and is a very straightforward one-off process. Wireless should suffice if the reliability & speeds are OK.
