TV360 from a Tivo

Hi

I see a lot of negative posts about TV360 on here.  I have an email offering an upgrade from my old Tivo box to TV360 and I am wondering wether to take the plunge.

I am a massive Rugby League fan and 5 games per weekend are shown on Sky Sports + red button.  With the Tivo the only way I can watch these games is via a tablet or my phone (currently half time in Hull v Wigan as I type)

The box will go where the current Tivo is, and there is a coaxial cable in place.  Do I need a wired Ethernet connection?  The wifi is good enough t stream the game to my tablet.

We are okay with losing the saved programmes on the Tivo. We use one or two series links (mainly my wife's stuff, Emmerdale, etc.).

I understand that I can't record the games on the Sky Sports + red button.

I was going to call tomorrow to remove TNT Sports so might discuss it then.

We are about 6 months from a renewal, but we have just got FTTP in our street, so it might not be a long term solution.

    I will assume you have a legacy TiVo-box - https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-box - as opposed to a V6.

Your box hardware is old, it runs TiVo-firmware which is fundamentally different to the Horizon-firmware that TV360 runs on. TV360 is very online-centric with recording bolted on, TiVo-is very recording-centric with streaming added on.

The newer V6 box runs the exact same hardware as the TV360, but runs the same familiar TiVo-firmware you have. You'll lose all your recordings & series-links with any box-swap, regardless of platform. The V6 offers Sky Sports+ as well as TV360, and is a clear upgrade from a TiVo.

VM, corporately, are encouraging migrations to TV360 - and thus any staff response is likely to be geared towards that aim. The two software platforms are fundamentally different, and the reference to "upgrade" is very marketing-driven. It's no more-or-less an upgrade than moving from Apple to Android is an upgrade.. it's a migration.

Some like TV360, some dislike it, but a migration is a one-way process. So make a decision on an informed basis.

Connectivity is identical between TV360 & V6 - you need the co-ax for live broadcast TV, and an internet connection for all the online services. Ideally that's Ethernet, but reliable wireless can suffice. Your TiVo has everything fed via the co-ax, and split out internally.
