TNT ultimate dark picture

Got arsenal forest on and ultimate picture is so dark. TNT hd is fine. Anybody know what this should be or is it just a temporary fault with the channel

  • It’s not any fault, they just broadcast as HDR HLG now as the Sky Sports UHD channels. Play with your tv settings, there are some topics here about to settings if you have an older tv. On the new ones the image as it should be. What I’ve noticed though it’s that the image jumps having the Standard mode on. I put it on Game Optimizer and see if it does the same. TruMotion settings didn’t help. All these on an LG 60UQ81006LB

According to rtings.com this TV isn't very good for HDR, the peak brightness is very low and this will make HLG look dark. TheUQ80 and UQ81 are the same TV, just with different stands.

The LG UQ80 has poor HDR peak brightness. It doesn't get bright enough to deliver an impactful HDR experience, and without a local dimming feature, small highlights don't pop against the rest of the screen.

The BT Ultimate picture was excellent last season on my V6 box. Was that not in HDR?

Agree as never had this problem when it was BT ultimate now it’s TNT it’s dark.

  • Coming back to my issue with the image and sound which jumps, after a quick check on X (Twitter) it’s a general issue happening everywhere, Sky, Virgin. So, it’s the channel’s fault, nothing to do with my tv settings.

  • As others have commented, it really depends on your TV. On my Hisense, the picture is brightest on 'Dark HDR', not 'Bright HDR'!  I tried the above comment about switching resolution, but it makes no difference. It's still HDR-HLG.

I think last season BT Sport was UHD but not HDR. There was a brief period when it was HDR. I'm the only person in my house that can tell the difference between HD and UHD, so rarely watch the UHD channels now!

Yet it's too dark for me too on a new Sony TV. The old BT Sports Ultimate channel was great. It's now unwatchable. Hope it's fixed soon.

I have a newish Sony OLED. I changed my gamma settings from -2 to +2 and it solved the problem. May possibly work for you.

  • I know this is an older issue but I just turn the ambient light detector on my eco settings off and it fixed the issue

I solved my issue on a Sony TV. Go into advanced settings, video options and set HDR mode to off. All the HDR modes look awful so set it to off. I've got a clear bright picture now.

Thanks for letting us know that you have been able to get this resolved and how you did it 👍

      Kind Regards,

  • posted a similar thread myself the other day. Previously the picture was very good but since they have changed the signal to HDR I believe? The picture on some older TVs is dark. I have heard Sky have an option to turn off HDR so I’m suprised we can’t.

I have tried to change every setting recommended on my TV to make it better hit nothing works unfortunately

  • Same for me on a year old Samsung QLED. Terrible dull picture on HDR broadcast in the iPlayer app and on TNT ultimate.

This isn’t an issue with my Apple TV. I’ve tried all suggestions in here. Set resolution to 1080 on the box, tried to change the gamma on the tv but can’t in HDR mode apparently.

    Really frustrating.

      Hi twochoicestom,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

I'm very sorry to hear about the issue with your picture on TNT.

Can you confirm if you have another Tv in the property you can try the box on?
