TiVo to 360 upgrade email

Hi,

I have received the email offering the change of box to a 360 so I don’t lose my sky sports subscription. Logged on the website to confirm the change and I can’t find the option to order one anywhere, even when clicking directly through the email itself. Am I being thick? Or can anyone help so I can get it sorted please ?

Be clear - the email does NOT threaten you with the loss of Sky Sports. Those remain fully supported on all V6 boxes.

What the email refers to is "Sky Sports+" & the additional HD multiscreen, which will be getting a lot of promotion in time for the new football season. The multiscreen is being developed for V6 boxes, but is currently only available on TV360, hence the promo.

TV360 is a completely different TV platform and is fundamentally not TiVo/V6. I've also received the email, and that is not made clear.

  • Also useful to note, the email is clear that you will LOSE ALL YOUR RECORDINGS.
And therefore not something I will be doing any time soon. Surely it can’t be that difficult to keep them. Even if the format changes, convert them one by one. Might take a while, but much quicker than I can watch them. It could be done in the background.

Easy to say, but potentially a can of worms. Firstly you need a commercially-available converter between the two file formats that is proven & supported. Do you deploy it centrally, in which case you need the boxes to upload and then download.. or do you deploy an app to the boxes themselves, but how do you counter the reformat process?

The Horizon-software which drives TV360, is fundamentally different to TiVo-software. Remember as well, that VM's licencing for recording boxes is based around timeshift recording for more convenient viewing - not long-term archiving of recordings.

The logic therefore follows that most programmes broadcast in the past 30 or so days is likely to be available OnDemand somewhere.
