Should we have another box?

We had a V6 and an old Tivo, contract expired so phoned up and got a new one with a 360 box and a streaming "box".

We are on the old cable/DOCSIS network.

I was under the impression from the call however that we'd get a new TV360 and a Streaming Box and then return the old V6 and Tivo. What has turned up however is merely a Streaming Box with two remotes.

Firstly, I was under the impression (possibly erroneously) that you needed the newer TV360 box rather than a V6 updated to TV360 for multiroom.

Secondly, our (new) contract says under main services (ignoring the TV package).

  • Virgin TV 360 Box
  • Additional TV Box
  • Stream Box

For context the old contract where we had the two boxes said

  • Tivo Monthly Fee
  • Virgin TV V6 Box, powered by TiVo
  • Additional TV Box

Is the "Stream Box" also the additional TV box? Or should we have three TV boxes in total (one being the Streaming Box)?

  • Hi Fastdruid 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us, sorry to hear of the confusion you are having with your package. With upgrades they are defined as boxes but the V6 and the 360 are the same box with a software conversion that is triggered with one of the remotes that you have received. The second remote is part of the Stream box which on your contract would be classed as the additional TV box, the box is designed to give more freedom in its location around the home as an additional cable from outside is not required and works over Wi-Fi.

  • If you have a V6 box you do only receive a remote and a software update to the V6 to covert it to a 360 box as it's basically the same hardware. The multiroom option is the same for both the 360 and V6.

The old TiVo box unused to be replaced with a mini box but this has now changed to the Stream box which makes it more flexible because you can move the Stream box to anywhere you like around the house and connect to different TV's.

The Stream box is the additional box on your contract, that's the way Virgin do things to make life easy. 🤔

TiVo,  V6 & TV360 all support multiroom. If anything, TiVo/V6 does it better due to the multiple hard drives in each box, whereas TV360 is designed around one central recording pool.

Stream boxes don't record, so the question becomes immaterial. V6 refers to the box running TiVo-software, TV360 refers to Horizon-software, but the hardware (and thus connectivity) is identical.

If you'd contracted for three boxes you'd have a 360 (migrated from the V6) plus two Stream boxes. However you have two boxes and the contract badly explains this, it should read:

    • Virgin TV 360 Box
    • Additional TV Box (Stream Box)
  • Should read and how Virgin contracts read can be different,  same as my 2 boxes.

    ✅ Additional TV Box
    ✅ Virgin TV 360 box
✅ Virgin TV 360 Mini box
