Odd behaviour from subtitles

Hi Frequently but randomly the subtitle banner (with words) from the final ad s tays on when the TV programme resumes and stays there for varying lengths of time before disappearing. Correct  subs are shown but often are shielded. Tried all the usual things eg plug out, change hdmi etc.
