If your TV and soundbar are connected using the HDMI-eARC connections and one power is set to on, on the 360 then you only need to press the red power button on the 360 remote to power everything up, the white power button is for the TV only.
The messages you see on screen are probably more to do with the different manufacturers and how they manage the HDMI connections when syncing, my LG TV and soundbar using eARC power up with no problems the soundbar always displays a eARC message after a few seconds and the sound then goes off and on as everything syncs up again but no problem with the picture.
