Mystery 'splitter' cable with 360 mini box

I just received my 360 Mini box for the bedroom, and with it came a strange cable labelled "splitter for broadband". It appears to have some strange plastic-wrapped device near the wall socket end, but otherwise doesn't appear to be any different from a standard VM coaxial cable. There doesn't seem to be a dual plug at the end that will plug into the 360 box.

Can anyone explain how this 'splitter' works and if it's necessary to use the 360 service? I already have some coaxial cables in the bedroom where I will be using the 360 from a previous installation, and was hoping I could just connect one of those to the box.

  • Don't know what that cable is for, the connectors look different sizes on the picture, you might need to wait for an answer on the cable.

If you already have a virgin connection and cable where you want the mini box I would try those.

Edited to say that someone posted recently that the "old" mini box was being replaced by the stream box, maybe the cable is for that. 🤔 Although it should work on wi-fi. 🤔

That looks like a standard ‘input’ cable that goes between the wall box and VM device, hub or splitter to hub and TV box. The bulge is an isolator to stop a power surge.

Not seen that one before, wasn't something that cable & wireless used.

  • It's just a coax cable that contains an integrated surge protection.

Old installs include it in the wall box, later installs do not.

I don't think the " Old " cable & wireless installs had it in the wall box, an engineer checked and added them to the cables many years ago. Didn't recognise it in the picture.

It is a coax male to male push on cable with a built in safety isolator. You will still need it as the V360 end connection is push fit & not a screw connection that any existing cabling has.
