Is it just me or are SD channels bad quality?

Good day,

I have an old V6 TiVo box and have used the firmware update to tv360

Since doing this my SD channels seem to get quite blocky and bad quality, the HD channels seem to be ok, I'm just wondering if this might be a problem with my box, or if SD channels in general are just really bad, I don't seem to remember SD channels being like this in the past and maybe virgin are just slacking

its like watching a low quality stream on the internet, it was always really good when I got my tv through the cable, now it seems that tv channels are streamed via the internet, which would explain why if internet goes down I loose the tv too, were as in the past I could loose internet and still watch telly

whatever changes virgin have made it seems worse off

Thanks

Martin

  • Hey Martin_Airs, thank you for reaching out and I am sorry to hear about your SD channels.

There could be many factor to this, what TV do you have?

If its a 4K one for example it will always try to play and upgrade the channel the 4K which could result in this.

Also it could depend on the age for example if you are watching a gig on a show on Sky Arts from the 90's or before you will see a big difference in quality.

Can you post a picture of the blockiness you're reporting? If the issue is of picture pixellation on live TV, that's likely a signal fault regardless of software version (TiVo/V6 or TV360)

If the issue is of upscaling, that an SD channel is being asked to provide UHD-detail that's simply not there, then there is no fix for that short of experimenting to decide whether your TV box or TV is better at upscaling.

Live TV still comes through the coax cable any catch-up, streaming apps are all internet connected.

As previously suggested post a picture of the problem you are having to help with where the problem might be.

The 360 box will always upscale to your TV' s native resolution unless you select 1080 and let the TV upscale.
