Do I need to upgrade the v6 box to 360

I had 2  x recent  email from VM telling me how to upgrade the V6 to a 360.

Before I would attempt this I have few questions and advice needed.

As the reviews/post are not good for the 360 upgrade, is it possible to keep the V6 or is there a cut off/end date when it will stop working?, how long can the upgrade be delayed and I am being told I need to upgrade to 360.

My wife struggles with all tv remotes and uses an old VM remote that was form a box prior to to the V6, so I am not sure if she will manage a new 360 remote which is more complex requiring more button presses, and she is  visually impaired, so voice recognition might be possible to try.

As the 360 remote is posted after conversion to 360, and the old v6 remote does not work on 360, how long without a tv remote, surely it should be sent out prior to any upgrade.

I will loose all my recordings built up over time which is not good as I a have music recordings which I value as well as other programmes still not watched. Some are available on catch up, but not the films.

I am happy with the V6 and all my recorded programmes, I need to check if I really do need to upgrade the software to 360. I do not use Netflix so not an issue and can get that on a Roku box.

Is there any change to my mix tv  package costs converting a V6 to A 360.

As the benefit is not obvious to me, it seems that VM or changing from the Tivo platform to 360 platform do I need to comply.

Is it better to get a 360 box rather than upgrade a V6 box software, and in some posts the V6 upgrade fails to install.

  • The important thing to remember with this is that it is a MIGRATION to a different TV platform, it is NOT an upgrade. VM seem to use the phrase as it can be done (on most occasions) with the existing hardware. It’s like having a desktop PC that you run Windows on, & VM is trying to get you to “upgrade” it to Apple MAC iOS software.

You do not have to change anything. TiVO V6 is still fully supported, although with less apps & some FAST channels missing. If you are happy with what you have there is no need to change.

Finally on recordings. Irrespective of whether you change or not, recordings on VM equipment are only licensed by the content owners for the purposes of “viewing at a more convenient time”. It is not & never will be an archive method, & if the box breaks or you change boxes for another reason you will lose them anyway.

Thanks for the advice, as I am happy with the Tivo V6 tv box which works well, I will keep that system for now rather than migrate to the  newer 360 platform.

As long as my Tivo V6 it keeps working, then I have no need to switch at the moment to 360 different software.

I am aware that I do not own any recordings and they are for viewing later.

I had a V6 replaced some years back so lost my recordings then.

One very small point to add, "I do not use Netflix so not an issue and can get that on a Roku box".

Netflix is available on your V6. I suspect this reference has come from the fact that Netflix has now been removed from the TiVo, which VM have been using as the basis for offering the TV360 conversions for ex-TiVo customers.

This has resulted in some people mistakenly believing that Netflix is being removed from the V6, which it is not.

Let's get to the important things: the most compelling reasons for a migration to the 360 are extra apps (like Apple TV+, Disney+, Paramount+ and UKTV Play) and voice control. The latter would probably help your wife the most as she would only need press the button and say what she wants, e.g. a channel number or an app like YouTube.
