Clarity Regarding Box Names

Hello, I've recently ordered Fibre 500 and Mega TV with Sky Sports. Virgin phoned me today to tell me that the package will actually cost 75p extra per month, which I guess is ok, but they also said the 360 box wasn't compatible and I would be having an Apollo box instead. I asked on the phone if the apollo box was recordable as I didn't want a stream box because I'd like to choose what to record etc. and they confirmed that is was.

However I've searched for Apollo and it appears to be the streaming box, so I'm a bit confused about the situation.

Does the Apollo box have a hard drive which allows you to record?

Thanks very much

  • Sounds like you have a Fibre connection so you can't have a 360 box which has a coax connection, so you will receive a Stream box and it does not have a hard drive so no recordings. ☹️

If you are in a NexFibre area & are being given a Hub5x for your internet, you are not on the traditional cable TV network, so cannot use the boxes that use that system. Hence you have no option but to use the Stream product.

I've no idea what this "Apollo box" is but it looks as if you will get a Stream box which does not have a recording facility. As you are on Mega TV you can get up to six Streams.

Liberty Global call the Stream box 'Apollo' in the Netherlands. It was the original name when the Horizon next generation entetainment platform was first  introduced.

As per nodrogd you will be receiving the Stream box which doesn't have recording facilities.  In Holland the Stream (Apollo) box has cloud recording, however that hasn't been introduced over here due to a lack of permissions from the broadcasters.  The majority of programs though are also available on either the Catch Up services or via the apps,

And as Roger_Gooner stated you do have the option to have up to 6 of these boxes. If you were on the old network you would be restricted to a a maximum of three 360 boxes.
