360 upgrade won't work is it my old TV?

Hi, currently on hold on the phone to virgin for 20 mins.....Will try you fine people 😊

I have a V6 box, got the email to upgrade so I accepted it and received the new remote on Thursday. Now we have no virgin TV. The V6 is on our HDMI3 port put the TV says nothing is detected on the HDMI ports. Its like it can no longer detect the v6 box. My TV is 15 years old but does have HDMI ports. I have changed no cables, the software upgrade has done this. Why? Is it because its not a 4k resolution TV? That's all I can think of. .......Still on hold on the phone. Thanks

This is a Community forum and can take a day or two for a VM Mod to respond.  However has the V6 done the software upgrade yet?  Have you swapped HDMI cables/ports? Have you rebooted the V6? Powered the TV off/on at the wall socket? Replaced the batteries in the new remote?

Thank you for your reply.  I have spoken to the call centre now, he has resent the software upgrade and said give it half an hour. I have switched everything on and off again and checked all the cables are plugged in. I only have one HDMI port so can't try another. Can't even use the new remote yet as the TV isn't detecting anything....I will keep you updated...

        Hi laulau2,

In your original post on this thread you stated that "The V6 is on our HDMI3 port but the TV says nothing is detected on the HDMI ports"  Yet in the post I'm replying to you've stated, "I only have one HDMI port so can't try another....Can't even use the new remote yet as the TV isn't detecting anything"

If the VM set top box is currently using HDMI3 then there are at least two other HDMI ports you can use, HDMI1 and HDMI2.  Some older Samsung TV's called HDMI1 port HDMI (MHL) so try that one if you have one of the older Samsung TV's.

You should be able to remove the other devices that you have connected and then place the VM set top box into one of those ports. Generally HDMI1 (or on the older Samsung HDMI MHL) works.

What happens if you press the red standby/power button on the right hand side at the front of the VM set top box?

Have you made sure that you haven't accidently pressed the on/off rocker on the back of the V6 and thus turned off the box?

Have you tried a different wall socket?

Do you have another TV set that you can try there temporarily?

How far did you actually get with the software upgrade?  Did you click on the Install Now app?

There should either be an insert included in the box containing the 360 remote, or instructions printed on the inside lid of the box containing the remote (picture shown below)

There's a youtube video showing you what to do

There have been a number of reports of V6 boxes failing after the 'upgrade' has been done, so don't rush to replace your TV.

Hopefully you'll get support when they answer, or a VM person may respond here.

  • Hi  laulau2. For what it's worth our tv is a similar age. The only issue we had when upgrading from our tivo box was the standby lights didn't show although it was working, although that is now resolved. So not sure it's the age or lack of 4k that is the problem.

  • We have TV, of a sort. The TV can select the box now but the home page is still the same and there is no on demand, it says temporary unavailable and Netflix won't launch. Maybe I just need to have more patience, I'll give it a bit longer and reboot....🤞
