Tv 360 upgrade lights/recordings not working

I have had nothing but grief since being updated to 360 ( both boxes worked fine before the upgrade )

initially all was good ( or so i thought )

I first noticed the lights on the front of the box stopped working

Checked standby mode ( was not in eco )

Did 2 x factory resets ( one with save recording and one without ) after the second the lights started working again but then stopped after about 30 mins ( never to be seen again )

Recordings are also very temperemental some work some dont and some try to work then dont

I have noticed that recordings on the upstairs box will not play on the downstais box and vice versa , i have tried ensuring both boxes are on the same wifi and also tried rj45's to no avail

Any help would be appreciated

  • Horizon is a totally different system that works on a central server that organises where the recordings are stored. Recordings are centrally pooled, & unless you specify through the advanced settings that a specific recording should be stored on specific box, it will just record on the last box that was used for recording.

Horizon was designed to work with cloud recording (the way it is used in the rest of Europe), but due to broadcaster agreements here recordings have to be held at the location the account is held.

Some older boxes have had issues migrating to Horizon, so you might end up with replacements. In that case you will lose the capacity of one box as the second box will only stream from the first.

  • Thanks for the info , i have found that the box in which the recording was set is the only box it will work on ( if it is going to play ) with all this in mind why have virgin advised to upgrade to such an unstable platform ( surely  hardware should of been upgraded prior to upgrade )

The migrations were done in this fashion to tempt customers with multiroom boxes to migrate without losing recording storage space. The problem is that the more heavily used a box is, the more likely it is to fail on migration. VM cannot tell how heavily a customer uses their boxes.

Out of interest, how do you think VM "advised" you to convert? It's common for the software conversion to be "offered" (with whatever "upgrade" terminoloy is used), but advising you to do so is different.

The software platform itself is different - for some it's better, for some it's worse. But they're trying to make it easier for V6 users to convert by not forcing unnecessary new hardware.

  • Advised possibly the wrong word but i was just out of contract/deal so tried to negotiate another contract ( as my payments had gone up significantly ) and was told that if i wanted a cheaper contract for 18 months that it would have to be upgraded to 360 ( it was implied that i would get all the hardware posted out to me and also the same features as before with the addition of netlix free)

  • Either way what would be the solution to allow me to watch a recording on both boxes not just the one it was scheduled to record from ?

Hey woz71, thank you for reaching out and I am sorry to hear you are having some 360 issues.

Are you getting any error codes?

Is it letting you record at all?

      What content isn't working?

      Any error messages?

        Hi Matt

No error codes apart from a could not connect to other box message when trying to view a recording , sometime recordings are shown in the list but fail to open ( no message but spinning wheel ) , the lights have stopped working on one box ) , all operations seem very slow compared to before the upgrade ( i have tried multiple times restoring back to factory settings to no avail
