360 upgrade is in fact a downgrade

How can something be an upgrade if you end up with worse then you started with? I had the tivo v6 box and saw that I could upgrade to 360. The only information I saw said to make sure I watched any programmes recorded otherwise I would lose them. I proceeded with upgrade, big mistake , so many functions disappeared that i am now paying for something that doesn't do what i want and I have already lost count at how many errors codes/buffering have appeared. Unfortunately still have 15 months of contract left but after 10 with Virgin I will not be continue.

It is an upgrade. An upgrade for Virginmedia - it saves them money in licence fees.

    You are only a customer.

  • Sounds like you didn't do any research on the forum before you switched. A lot of the V6 features are TiVo patented and the 360 uses Virgin's (Global media) in-house software Horizon so are unlikely to be available, also it's based on a streaming platform used in global's other operations using cloud based recordings which currently isn't available in the UK.

Some of the older V6 boxes don't like the update and if you are getting error messages you might need your box replacing. What error messages are you getting.

If your box deletes recordings and any planned recordings if you reboot the box or do a factory reset using the keep recordings option then it is definitely faulty and needs replacing. Another hard drive fault symptom is if you have problems pausing and rewinding live TV.

  • I do not do any research which was my mistake. Thanks for info

  • You’re not alone. The 360 service is an abomination

A lot of this is terminology. TiVo & V6 run TiVo-firmware, TV360 runs Horizon-firmware - the two are fundamentally different. It's a bit like "upgrading" from Android > Apple, or "upgrading" from Windows > Linux.

TiVo software is very recording-centric with streaming added on. Unless you want Disney+ and/or Paramount+ access, the streaming access is broadly the same as TV360.

    Horizon-software is very OnDemand-centric with recording added on. It has Disney+ & Paramount+ which V6 doesn't.

The connectivity between the two boxes is identical, and so if you're getting error messages & buffering - this is unusual and so.... if you can provide some specific details that may help. Specifically - what errors are you getting, and what are you trying to do, when you get them?
