360 Series Recording - Not Fit For Purpose

I recently 'upgraded' to 360, having received an email from VM telling me that I had to.

After upgrading and losing all my series links (without being told - the only warning was that I'd lose all my recordings - not the series link settings) - I've started trying to set them up again. However, it's so inconsistent that it's borderline unusable. Some programmes are fine - search for them, and then click 'record' and set up a series link. Just like before. Intuitive and straightforward.

Then there the others... For example, I wanted to set up a series link for Brassic. I searched it and was presented with a selection of channels with varying numbers of series on it. I just want to record the new series of Brassic when it comes on TV. I don't really care which channel it's on or when it's on. In truth, I don't even know what channel it was on before. I just simply searched the name, set up a series link, recorded it then watched it when new episodes appeared. But that doesn't seem to be an option now.

Are there any plans to make the series link functionality intuitive and straightforward and across all channels - like it was before I carelessly agreed to 'upgrade'?

Or am I doing it wrong, somehow? I kind of hope it's that, to be honest.

[Some additional detail for those who might care.

Warning - this gets a bit tedious and confusing, but hey - welcome to the world of V360 series links:

When I select Brassic and I'm presented with various channels all showing the show, if I select any of the ones showing the most recent episodes (series six) there is NO record or series link option. However, if I select one that only goes up to series two - from five years ago - I'm given the option to series link, click 'new episodes only' and then it tells me that it'll record everything from series two onwards. So the only option I have is to record a bunch of episodes that I've already watched, filling up my box with recordings that I have no intention of watching (again) - all because the VM software has taken several leaps backwards. If there was any way at all of going back to V6 I'd jump at the chance, but I suspect there isn't, so I'm keen to know what the product roadmap for 360 is. Any clues, VM? I'm stuck in a relatively expensive contract with you for ages, so I'm keen to know that you're going to resolve the mess that you've made of a core product of yours]

  • The new series of brassic will more than likely be on Sky Max seeing that all the other episodes are available on the Sky Max on-demand option.

You will need to look out for when the new series is available because you can't set a series link unless the programme is actually on the TVGuide and then use the Advanced options to set up a series link using the "New Only" option.

The setting a series link from a search for when a programme becomes available sometime in the future or across all channels is most unlikely.

There is no going back to V6 once you have made the decision to switch to 360.

I recently 'upgraded' to 360, having received an email from VM telling me that I had to.

Migrations from TiVo/V6 to TV360 are completely voluntary, although some of VM's marketing certainly gives the opposite impression if you don't know any better.

TiVo-software on a V6 allows you to set a series-link from any programme that's listed in the EPG or OnDemand listings "somewhere" - so a single CatchUp or box-set episode is sufficient to capture any future broadcast showings.

TV360 relies on a programme being listed in the advance EPG, thus have a showing in the next 14days. If that's not there, you can't set a series link.

  • Thanks for these replies. They've confirmed what I suspected.

Can anyone from VM confirm whether there is any likelihood of this functionality being restored at any point in the near future?

I don't want to have to keep an eye on the guide, two weeks in advance of a new series being released, so that I can set up a series link on it. The whole point of a series link is that I don't HAVE to know when it's on.

You could just add it to the watchlist.

If/when a new season appears it'll be added there.

  • Also, while migrations to 360 might be completely voluntary, the email I received from VM was entitled 'Your Virgin Media TV Box Needs An Upgrade'. That is, at best, deliberately misleading.

  • Not alone there buddy been tryng for a week to make an engineers appointment to fix my virgin tv box which hasnt worked properly since installing 360 phoned twice only to be told we are sending to an email with a link to fix it goodbye  not good enough!!

V360, in my opinion, is much worse than Tivo V6 in many ways, recording being one of them. We only moved to 360 because it is better with Sky Sports/Sports+ although not as good as when we had Sky Sports (and +) on Now TV.

Sky Sports+ launched on V6 back in Nov/Dec 2024. It works extremely well, with exactly the same functionality as on TV360

Our experience was poor picture quality on V6 with notable improvement on 360
