360 audio surround problem

Since installing 360 my Sony BluRay 5.1 surround sound goes into mute mode . If I unmute the sound via the remote , after 15 seconds it goes into mute again and remains there . The surround works fine if I unplug the 360 but when I switch it back on it goes back to mute. Had no problem with the old Tivo box. Anyone had the same or know a fix ?? Thanks.

  • For a 5.1 surround sound you must have an AVR. Have you tried different HDMI cables from the 360 and player to the AVR and from the AVR to the TV?

  • Hi , this set-up was working with my old Tivo box so I thought it would be the same set-up. tried new HDMI cables and routed them through the ARC channels . Still mutes after 15 secs . Can't get a number to call Virgin Tech anywhere !!

  • Connected  BluRay to TV via HDMI ARC !  , 360 box to TV (no ARC) . BluRay surround sound works fine when 360 box unplugged , plug it back in and surround sound goes to mute mode. tried using Virgin remote , no difference so switched that off and went back to the Sony remote , No difference . Tried moving the 360 box away from BluRay but no difference. As if 360 is sending a signal to BluRay to go to mute mode. Anyone got a phone number to talk to a Tech Guy ??? Was on VMedia site for 3 hours yesterday , Totally Useless !!!

  • You keep saying "surround sound" but if you have no AVR or other audio system then all you get is audio from the TV's speakers. Connect the 360 to HDMI 1 and the Blu-ray player to a non-HDMI ARC input.

  • Roger , My BluRay player is the Sony 5.1 surround sound system , 4 speakers , 1 subwoofer and a front speaker. As I said , the system was working fine with the old system before the upgrade. Problem still exists and Still can't speak to Anyone at Virgin !!

  • You connect the 360 to the Sony (the port might be labeled CBL/SAT) and the Sony to the TV's HDMI 1.
