360 - when is the second box update coming?

I had 2 x V6 boxes which were sadly downgraded to 360. They worked fine for ages until ‘engineers’ decided to swap out a box to fix a problem without first diagnosing the fault. It didn’t fix the issue.

I am now left with a substandard setup, with no ability to pause live tv on box 2, no ability to record on box 2 while still paying for a box that could have done.

I have complained to VM and been told that a software fix is coming that will enable a second ’main’ box to be connected (ie; restoring my setup to what it was before the ‘engineers’ screwed it up).

I call VM on a regular basis and just keep getting told that a fix is coming ‘soon’. Can anyone actually tell me when?

I should never have made the switch from V6 to 360 and I strongly recommend that until the 360 system is as good as V6, no-one else should, it really is that poor.

I have sad news for you I’m afraid. There will be no fix. The V360 system is designed as a single recording location system. VM have made an interim measure for V6 customers first converting their boxes to V360 that keeps two recording locations, but this itself causes lots of issues & many end up being swapped out. Your second box has no hard disk (which is why it is half the size of the “main” box). It is physically impossible for it to record anything, so don’t expect the flying pig to arrive anytime soon.

You are paying for TV channels & rent a box to receive them on. There is no stipulation as to what that box should do. Many new features are only available on the new boxes. The difference is that Horizon 360 is streaming centric, whereas TiVO V6 was recording centric, going on with audience trends nowadays.

  • So VM are just flat out lying to me in the hope I will just give up and accept the system? Would it kill them to enable the USB port so I can plug in an external SSD?

      Nope.

1). The broadcasters would never allow removable media to be used.

2). Horizon V360 is a server based system owned by VMs parent company. It’s now in its 5th generation & has been in use in the rest of Europe for many years. In Europe content is recorded to the “cloud”, & there is no local storage. In the UK & Ireland the broadcasters insist on local non removable storage, so the server uses your box as the “cloud” location.
And it can only get worse. VM are already progressing moving away from traditional “cable” Broadband & TV services to full fibre XGS-PON. The only TV that runs on this is IP based & has no recording facilities at all. So unless the broadcasters get on board all recording will cease. Sky is also going totally IP based by 2029, so if you are thinking of jumping ship it won’t last long.
