As for as I know the VM TV boxes require a VM broadband connection to work.

Yes. The TiVo box requires a Virginmedia broadband connection.
Have you by chance bought that TiVo box on eBay? If so you have wasted your money. It belongs to Virginmedia and the seller should have returned it to them.

Let's be clear which box you have - is it definitely a TiVo and not a V6? https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-box
TiVo's have an inbuilt internet connection and do not use your home broadband - check the heartbeat LED indicator on the front-right of the box for static=working, flashing=failed.
A V6 does use your home broadband and needs either an (ideally) Ethernet cable or wireless connection to your homehub. That internet connection is used for OnDemand, streaming & various updates - EPG included.
V6 & TV360 require a VM home broadband connection as a non-negotiable requirement, a non-VM connection won't work.

I have taken a look and I can see you've spoke to the team recently on this, did they manage to help at all? Cheers
