New TV doesn't recognise Virgin box

Hi,

We bought a new TV in December and it is so frustrating as we are always having problems navigating to the programmes we want to watch.

When we installed the new Samsung TV, it listed many models of Virgin box but did not have our model number on the list. Can we order a replacement, newer box perhaps?  Would that enable us to configure our TV properly?  At the moment, we need to use the slim remote that came with the TV alongside our old Virgin remote and they both often do not work properly with the current set up.

Your advice would be massively appreciated!

Cheers, Owen

When asking for a "newer box", be very careful what you wish for. Newer is not always better, and depends which box you currently have - TiVo, V6 or TV360? Check on https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-box if you're not sure.

All VM TV boxes have an HDMI connection, for an HDMI lead to run to your TV's HDMI input. Use your TV's menu system to select whichever HDMI socket that lead is connected to. I suspect this could be an example of modern-TV's being so "smart" that they make the basics unnecessarily over-complicated.

Thanks for that.  Judging from the link you provided, we have a Virgin TV 360 box.  We do have it plugged in with the HDMI cable but still have a problem because the TV doesn't list this VM Box model. The problem is that the new TV doesn't work with the master remote that it came with, so we instead are using the Virgin remote that came with the VM box - together with a smaller remote that also came with the TV. I'm wondering if we had a VM Box that the new TV recognises, would this solve the problem?

Have you tried Ziggo instead of Virgin? That has worked for some people.

  • As already mentioned Pace DCR7111 has worked for some Samsung TV's in the past, you could also try Ziggo Mediabox Next, my LG is paired using Ziggo Set-Top box.

The problem is that the new TV doesn't work with the master remote that it came with

Perhaps ( like a Sony remote ) the Samsung TV remote needs
to be in "TV mode" to command the TV.
