Confusion all round

I haven’t used my TIVO box for while, nothing unusual there, it’s always talked to VM and updated as and when.

I turned it on today and could see it wasn’t communicating to VM, the M58 came up.

All this in itself is no big deal, what is an issue is the first line contact could not reset it, 3-5 days to sort, fair enough I said, then it twigged, I agreed to M360, had some numpty already done the changes when I’ve not got my new box yet….and I’ll lose that which has been recorded when I change them over ??

Is it just me but are all communication companies just poor at actually communicating? As I get older the tech gets more complicated, all remote messaging and no real explanations forthcoming.

It was just as challenging when my Hub 5 arrived, just plug and play they said, but forgot to mention you have to get VM to acknowledge the hub their end before it will work.

Gripe over 🤐

M58 is the 30 day inactivity trigger, & requires a simple reactivation code to be sent. (7400 usually occurs as an initial activation problem on install).

Looks like another stealth migration to the Horizon 360 platform has occurred.

But the chat advisor fibbed me off I suspect as they either didn’t know what to do or dud nit gave the system access

You've posted in the tivo section, but is your TV an actual tivo or V6 box?

A tivo box can't be upgraded and has to be swapped out for a TV360 box, however with a V6 box then that actual box receives an over the air update to install the 360 (horizon) system and a new remote control is sent out. The error code /tv-error-codes/m58/start  is generally shown when the actual box hasn't been connected and used for around 30 days. In some cases though this may be because the wrong box serial number is being held by VM's internal systems.  Both cases require a background update to the systems with the correct box information and to activate that box, or a new box to be sent out.

Have you tried clicking on the online error code to see if that can progress the issue?

Must admit, I took M360 to mean a broadband change, but I fear you may be right nodrogd

How long is "a while" that you've not used the TiVo? Historically they were deactivated after 28days of non-usage, but this should usually generate a 7400 error rather than necessarily M58

Can you access the TiVo menus? If so, try following Home > Help & Settings > Settings > Network. And does a connection show in the top-right corner?

Just say no service. VM help desk had no idea to turn it back on!

why deactivate, bit more tech they insist you use
