BBC iPlayer on Tivo

Hello,

I haven't received any communication from VM (all contact details are up to date), I only found out BBC iPlayer could no longer be accessed on my Tivo box when I tried to use it today. I have a V6 and a Tivo box. From what I've seen elsewhere it seems the Tivo will have to be upgraded. I DO NOT WANT A TV360 (until there is no choice) but would be happy with a V6 replacement for the Tivo. How do I go about arranging this (and ensuring I get a V6 and not a TV360)?

Thanks in advance,

Steve_1953

  • Hello Steve_1953,

Welcome back to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your TV service after the removal of BBC iPlayer from your TiVO box. Would you like to go ahead and see if we can provide a V6 box instead of an upgrade to TV360 or a Stream box?

    Kind Regards,

    Steven_L

You need to bear in mind that the V6 has to access apps via your internet hub. It will either require a wired Ethernet feed to it or a reliable WiFi connection, unlike your existing box that has an internal modem.

Though, for clarification, that also applies to the 360. Probably more so as it's even more reliant on the connection for streaming recordings from one box to the other etc.

The iPlayer is still fully functional & supported on the V6, it's just been removed from the legacy & elderly TiVo.

VM's policy is to offer conversions to TV360 to all TiVo-customers in this context. Since you have a mixed TiVo & V6 setup, you are correct to think a straight TiVo > V6 swapout would be the best option in this case. Either that, or remain with your TiVo and use the app on your V6 instead.

I suspect that waiting for the forum staff team to respond on this forum, may ultimately be the easiest choice here. There is no self-service means of requesting a TiVo > V6 swap, and CS are quite likely to encourage TV360.

For what it's worth, faulty TiVo's are replaced with V6 as a matter of course - does yours have any service faults?

Thanks for your quick reply japitts. The Tivo has no obvious faults so can't go down that route. The two boxes are in different parts of the house and iPlayer access is needed in both. I agree waiting for forum staff is probably the best option.

      jpeg1, it's a very old tv!

Personally I prefer the 360 to tivo/V6 but if I were you then I would tell CS that I don't want the 360.  I would prefer a V6 to replace the outdated box since they both run on tivo, and I don't want to switch to the horizon interface.   The actual tivo box is slow, doesn't have access to netflix, iPlayer, Prime etc which are available on the V6.   I wouldn't hesitate to say that I consider the slowness of the tivo to be a fault.

Switching to 360 would mean the loss of 500mb of storage. Having another V6 would mean I can have hard drive storage on both boxes, which would in  fact give me an extra 500GB of storage, whereas I would lose storage if switching to 360 as the tivo would be replaced with a mini 360.   An additional V6 would enable me to record up to another 6 programs simultaneously instead of the current tivo limit of 3 simultaneous recordings.

Does your TV not have an iPlayer app? Most do now.
