If you switch the phones using the same HUB socket does it continue to work?
What type of handest is it, the type that draws power from the phone cable?

No, it doesn't work in socket 1. It's an old handset, I think it must get power from the phone cable, there's no other power source.

Hi al_the_bass 👋
Thanks for confirming that. If the handset isn't working when also connect to the TEL 1 port, then you may be correct in saying that the handset is not compatible with the Fibre Phone service.
It may be worth testing the working Landline handset you have in both sockets, to ensure the connection is working through both.
Thanks,

Hi there al_the_bass
Thank you so much for your post and welcome to the community forums it's great to have you here.
I am so sorry that you have faced this issue with your Father in Law's service, can I just clarify is the first phone connected at the Hub working and the second phone is also plugged in which is not working?

That is correct

You need to use TEL1 for testing purposes (and operating any phones) because that is the default port for the landline. TEL2 is for use if you had a separate second line/number.
If you find that the old phone works in TEL1 when set to Tone dialling and using the VM adapter then you have confirmed the phone itself works.
If you want to use corded phones in conjunction with telephone wall sockets via the TEL1 socket then you need VM to rewire your phone extension sockets and link them to the VM hub's phone connection. VM should do that free of charge as part of the switchover.
But, there is only any point in that, if you confirm the old phone works or not.
If you are going to have to buy a new phone, you may as well go cordless in which case the wall sockets would not be needed.
