Spoof SMS voicemail keeps calling landline!

Hi, all,

Hoping someone can help with this slightly long and complicated situation!

Late last Wednesday night, our landline phone rang, the display showed my sisters name and mob number!

I answered, but no one spoke, so I assumed she had accidentally dialled our number!

The next morning I called her, (we switch off the router each night, so the phone is only connected when the router is plugged in) upon the phone being connected, it immediately began ringing, again displaying my sisters name & mobile number!

The call rings out before going to our answer machine, this then repeats every 5-10mins!

The automated message says we have a SMS voice message before cutting off?

My first response was to contact my sister and ask if she had been trying to call us!

This is where the plots thickens, she said she had not made any call from her mobile, BUT around 2am the previous night, her younger son had his Discord account hacked!
They had changed his profile picture and posted some nasty comments to his friends!

They have reported the attack and don’t think their own personal date was accessed, but she did mention having some issues with logging into her emails?

I can only assume they might have somehow got our number during the hack, and set up some sort of robo calling?

I have spoken to VM, who have escalated the issue and am awaited their verdict.

If anyone has a similar experience, it would be helpful to know how they resolved it!

Thanks.

Bit hard to pick out exactly what you are describing and whether the following is relevant but ..... in the past on here I think I can recall topics where VM customers were receiving scam text messages coming via their landlines late at night.

Refer to the VM phone guide page 28

    https://store.virginmedia.com/content/dam/eSales/Downloads/Phone%20User%20Guide.pdf

which describes how to opt out of receiving texts via landline

I think the 0800 number given should present you with various options inc. opting in, out, setting curfew times etc. so listen to the actual spoken options on how to opt out.

If you complete the text opt out for your landline and the problem persists then you have a different kind of nuisance call problem.
