Nuisance calls from scammers pretending to be virgin media. Can I go ex-directory?

Keep getting nuisance calls from Germany claiming to be virgin media. Can I go ex-directory?

Thank you, Colin

Ex-directory may reduce identity fraud, but is will not reduce fake calls

Fake callers use an auto dialler it just starts at say area-code 125000 and retries all numbers to area-code 250998

The only reason a fake call is targeting you is if you keep answering the calls and even worse keep speaking to the caller.

  • Hey bluekontakt2004, thank you for reaching out and we are sorry to hear you are getting these calls, also a warm welcome to the community.

What is the number calling you?

You can block this number also.

Caller id is easily spoofed, very unlikely to be Germany, could be from anywhere.

Fit a call screening device to avoid scam calls

    https://www.truecall.co.uk/shop/truecall-call-blocker

This screens the calls and forces callers to state who they are and press a specific key on the phone before the call comes through and rings your phone.

Automated scam calls cannot complete this action. Human scam callers know that people with such a device fitted are scam-aware and will not attempt to progress the call.

Known callers can be added to an address list in the device and can ring straight through with no screening.

Some phone handsets have a 'lite' version of truecall built into the phone but features and functions are more limited compared to the standalone device.
