Landline - do we need it?

Since the cut over to VOIP (voice over internet protocol) we still pay for a landline!

As everything is still required or can this be cancelled?

Do not think we have had more than 2 calls (cold callers) on the landline. This seems a very high costs for something that is not used. Can it be cancelled?

  • Hello andrewmachell,

Welcome back to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. You can remove your landline from your package if you wish but sometimes having a landline decreases the price of your package as more discounts would be available to customers with a landline and that could. To have your package reviewed, please give the team a call on 150 from a Virgin Media landline or 0345 454 1111 opt 1, 4 and 4 again, this will get you through to the contracts team who will be able to look into this further for you.

    Kind Regards,

    Steven_L

      thank you for the reply.

still cannot get my head around the need for a landline as it’s basically not used as the calls now come in over the internet (VOIP).

While it’s understood that Virgin would like us to pay for the landline, as it’s something that no longer provides any utilisation, why does this affect the other packages provided?

Hi andrewmachell thanks for your reply here.

You can have packages without a landline included, but sometimes this can be more expensive as usually the best value promotional offers are with all 3 services as a bundle.

Either way it is best to reach out to the team directly on 150 / 0345 454 1111 and they can support you further with this.

        Many thanks

VM operates a hybrid system. The transmission to the exchange is now digital, but the exchange equipment remains the same for the time being. You are still paying for the power hungry equipment at the exchange.

VM's product offerings are based on bundles, and the presence of a landline might result in a cheaper bundle price. What is not relevant (yet) is how the landline is delivered until competition hopefully brings down prices after PSTN switchoff.

Hey Roger_Gonner, thank you for reaching out and this is correct the more products you take the better the discount.

Let us know if we can help with anything further.
