Why is it the VM Forum Team can make home landline numbers ‘ex directory’ whereas their colleagues in VM’s telephone customer service team seek to charge £3 per month for this ‘option’? GDPR requires them to keep our data private and they cannot make a charge for doing so!

Hey scrunch77, thank you for reaching out and we are so sorry to hear about your phone issue.

We can see you are currently in DM with my colleague, if you require any further information please go back to this DM.

  • I want to go ex-directory on my home landline to remove my name, address and home phone number from the public telephone directory, but VirginMedia don't provide a simple means of doing so. The customer service agent I spoke to said it would cost me £3 a month as an optional service!

I pointed out VM's obligations as a data processor under GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and that they cannot by law make a charge for keeping my data private, but neither the agent nor manager knew what GDPR was. They tried to escalate it to the Containment team, but they got cut off mid sentence and couldn't get through to Containment again despite trying three times.

I have now seen others posting requests to go ex-directory on this VM Community forum which have seemingly been resolved by VM agents by privae message. Please can someone similarly help me?

    Thanks

      Hi scrunch77 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to the Community Forums, apologies for the issues that you have been facing with enabling your number to be part of the Ex Directory. So that we can assist you we would need to bring you In for a private message, please look out for the envelope on the top right of your web browser or if you are using a mobile device, it will be located under your profile icon.

      Thanks.

Thank you VM Forum Team for switching my home landline number to be ‘ex directory’. It is extremely disappointing (I believe unlawful) that VM’s customer service team that I reached by telephone were seeking to charge me £3 per month for this and had never heard of GDPR!
