Home phone porting requested, no confirmation received of my request, how do I track the progress?

I have been a VM customer for many years and have always had a virgin media phone line as part of the TV and cable package. I've never used this line as I have another BT line with another number. 

I have recently renewed my contract with VM with the intention of porting the BT number to my previously unused VM number to utilise the full package (and hence cancel my contract with BT) I have checked the VM connection and the phone line is working though my router. so far so good.

When I agreed the new contract I was told I should wait 24 hours for my new contract with "anytime chatter" to take affect and then request a number port.  I did this and rang the phone number given to me by chat at the time of renewal. When I called this number was for a VM sales team and was an outbound number so got nowhere.

After finding no online method to request a number port I then went onto the VM chat and after a prolonged but seemingly successful conversation I put my number port request in.  I asked if I would receive a confirmation email and was told yes. A week later I have received nothing to show my port request was actually done. Also, nothing from BT, no way of tracking if this has been done.

What can I do to check IF this is going through?
