Digital Switchover practical advice

Can somebody comment who has actually received the kit from VM and successfully transferred. My potential issue is that the SH5 is upstairs and the phone is downstairs. Presumably the kit is just a adapter for the SH5 and then a cable to the phone ?

  • Having read other replies to similar questions, moving the SH5 seems to be the offered resolution. No good to me as a 16 port switch is located near the SH5 and redoing the cabling the accommodate that would be a nightmare.

Initial VM phone point is in the hall and a cable then runs to the living room where the phone is plugged in, ideally need cabling from the SH5 to the VM box in the hall downstairs.

      Hi qwakuk 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us, sorry to hear of the issues that you are facing with connecting your home phone to the Hub 5. This Is part of the requirements for the home phone switchover process is that the Hub to be relocated with phone, this is something that we can do for you or discuss with an engineer the best possible way to combine the two.

My folks have been through this, their solution was to use a three handset cordless phone, the base unit connects to the VM Hub and the other two hand sets can be where ever you choose.

Such an improvement to not have to move any kit and to have the freedom to be able to use a cordless phone in any room and even in the garden.

Remember if you move the VM Hub downstairs the Wi-Fi coverage will totally change and any network cabled devices will be a problem to solve.

  • We already have a Panasonic kit with a base unit and 2 satellites but the base needs to be plugged into the phone socket. This is in the living room.

That will change to the base unit being plugged in to the VM Hub.
With one of the other units in the living room.

My folks are 89 & 90 they had this sorted in a jiffy.

Engineer did turn up last week and turned back round and left, only option in his eyes was to relocate the SH5 downstairs. Not willing to rewire the phone connection to the hall which would have been less work.

Sorted it myself and switchover is supposed to happen today BUT the old analogue connection is still working so left things as they are.

The SH5 rebooted this morning and looking at the logs had a software update a couple of weeks ago probably as part of the overall plan.

    Perhaps this software update :

    Hub 5 : Software LG-RDK_11.6.2-2410.1 ( first reported Sep 2025 )
+ adds HTTPS on admin menu with self certificate ( expect browser warnings )
+ Roll-back to LG-RDK_7.6.15-2306.5 reported in first week of Oct 2025
