2nd Phone Line in Residential House

I already have VM VoIP phone and broadband. Is it possible to get a second phone line with separate number installed in my home? If it is possible, how much extra would it cost please? Many thanks

Just get another VoIP phone from e.g. Voipfone, Phonely etc.   Most of these Companies will supply the hardware pre-configured and it just plugs into your Hub.

I don't believe VM can supply another phone line into your Property.

  • Thanks for reaching out to us mildenhall.

We would need to advise that we cannot issue a second phone line to a customer and for this request, you may need to speak to our Sales Team on 0800 183 1234.

A standard landline charge would be £19.00 per month and would include the base the package of our Weekend Chatter.

    Thanks,

Do note VM are supplying an Analogue Phone service via the VM Hub,
this is not VOIP you could not connect a VOIP phone in place of an analogue BT handset.

It really best to avoid phone lines in ISP bundles, I too suggest get a proper SIP/VOIP phone.

We have 3 genuine SIP/VOIP lines they cost less per year than a few months with BT or VM.

Actually VM's phone via hubs is VoIP as traffic is converted by the ATA to digital format which gets broken into small packets and transported inside DOCSIS frames. At the regional headend the digital voice packets are extracted and processed depending on whether the recipient is also on VoIP or PSTN.

All very true and all aspects that are quickly lost on customers looking at the back of a VM Hub and seeing a pair of 1900s style of RJ11 analogue telephony sockets.

I am keen to ensure folks understand an Analogue home or care alarm can be connected to the VM Hub. If help is needed with wiring, please don't call the alarm companies and say VOIP as they will assume that you know exactly what VOIP means and you require a network card for your system ... or worse need a new system at a cost of £xxxx to become IP compatible.

Yes, the TEL2 socket on the hub will provide a second line, but you will pay through the nose for using it. There are plenty of true VoIP providers out there that will only charge for calls & not line rental, making them far cheaper. Most will allocate you a local number if that is important.

I do not see why you cannot have two phone lines through a VM hub. My hub’s settings say ‘CPE=3’.

Does CPE=3 mean a VM Hub plus 2 other VM TV devices ?

TV boxes do not go through the hub, they are connected directly to the cable and are not CPE’s.
