Sky Sports saying only 1 user via account?

I've just renewed my contract that had Sky Sports and previously 2 users could watch Sky Sports using the Sky Sports Desktop Player on Desktop or Laptop but now I get this message:

"Maximum users reached

Your account only allows a single user from your household to watch Sky Sports at a time" ???

Why?

Before I could watch Sky Sports on our 360 box (now we have this silly streambox) and 2 users could also watch via the Sky Sports Desktop Player on Desktop/Laptop so what the heck is going on? I've deleted all the devices out of my Account Settings > My Sky Devices but I cannot watch on my laptop but my brother can still use his Desktop and Phone at the same time? The Sky Devices page doesn't show any registered devices even though my brother can still use his Desktop and Phone? It also does not mention how many concurrent users can watch Sky Sports!

Is the Sky Sports Player now obsolete as the Sky Login screen has also changed and when logged in it seems to play in the browser not the Sky Sports Player? I've deleted all cookies for Sky Sports/Sky and logged out of Sky Sports on the browser (Edge) and then ran TVGO (Via the Browser) and clicked the Cricket and the 'Watch on Sky Sports > Exit to watch' but I still get the 'Maximum users reached'?

My TNT Subscription allows me to watch on 2 devices concurrently so why not Sky?

  • Same for me. Looks like Sky Sports is now browser only which is a plus. The Windows app was terrible.

However I often watched one sport on my Laptop and another on my tablet. For example right now with England Cricket and Italian GP.

Zero communication about it and I have recently resigned my contact.

    On our wavelength

How many devices (tablets) can I watch sky sports on at the same time. I'm sure it used to be 2 but looks like it's been changed can anyone confirm this.

The changes are under Sky’s control, & these changes are affecting their own customers as well.

Their advice under concurrent streaming now reads:

”Sky Q Multiscreen and Sky Glass/Sky Stream Whole Home customers can stream on up to four devices at a time. Up to 3 using Sky Go and one using either the Sky Sports app or website.”

    https://www.sky.com/help/articles/managing-devices-and-streaming-sky-go

So unless Sky allows VM to add the Sky Sports channels to the Virgin TV Go app, we are stuck with the one stream restriction. Typical of Sky I might say. They always give their own subscribers more perks.

  • I have encountered the same problem.

When I logged in to Sky Sports using my Virgin Media / O2 account in a browser on my Mac yesterday, on Saturday 6th September, I noticed that the user interface had changed.

I was presented with a new 'Sign in to Sky' page and then selected the Virgin Media option underneath the Sky login part, as illustrated in the screenshot:

Something has obviously been changed, and then when I logged in I went to my mobile phone to make sure that also worked after the changes. On my mobile I was taken to the Sky Sports app and had to log in to that too, and then I found I could watch Sky Sports.

However, when I went back to my desktop I unexpectedly encountered an error when I tried to watch a Sky Sports channel, which appeared in the browser rather than in the Sky Sports app.

The error displayed indicated that the maximum number of users had been reached and that my account only allows a single user from the household to watch Sky Sports at a time.

There are multiple issues with this, the main ones being:

    1. To me the message appears to be incorrect. I am a single user in the household but I am being prevented from using the household login to watch Sky Sports on multiple devices at the same time. There is only a single user but more than one device appears to have been blocked, what I think they mean is that a household can only watch Sky Sports on a single internet connected device at any particular point in time. Users and devices are not the same thing.

    2. There has been no communication about this change, and as a paying customer I would expect to be properly notified in advance of any change to the service that impacts how it can be used.

    3. When I signed the contract with Virgin Media, I only did so on the understanding that I could watch Sky Sports, that was a must have, and there was nothing in the Terms & Conditions that I can find mentioning this restriction on the number of devices that can be used to access Sky Sports at the same time. Feels like there could be a breach of the Terms & Conditions.

    4. I phoned Virgin support on 0345 454 1111 and was cut off. I then phoned back immediately and could not hear anything when the phone was finally answered after navigating the tedious menu system. After several attempts I gave up, it was not even possibly to get through to what Virgin Media call support. My experience points to what Virgin Media call support being effectively useless, and in fact a waste of time, and I have no confidence that they will be able to do anything about this or even offer a satisfactory explanation as to why the changes were introduced, when they were introduced and the impact to customers. I expect that the changes are probably all under Sky's control, but the services are delivered by Virgin Media to Virgin Media customers who have no contract with Sky, so it is up to Virgin Media to provide the necessary commercial wrapper around the service. They must have been in discussions with Sky about the changes that were in the pipeline because it affects their offering, and it appears that they have neglected to notify their customers.

I don't know what this all means, it feels like the service being offered by Virgin Media is diminished by these recent changes and is pushing me towards the exit.

Does anybody know what is going on?

  • Have you heard anything back regarding this? Having the same issue used to be able to watch it on my PC and tablet at the same time now I can't after they seemed to have removed the Sky Sports Player?

No one from VM has responded to this post yet about this issue, could you watch on 2 devices before at the same time?

The Sky Sports Player on Windows devices seems obsolete but nothing has been communicated regarding this so totally in the dark as to what's changed or why!

I've always been able to stream Sky Sports on two concurrent devices simultaneously for as long as I can remember.

And have just tested doing exactly that. I do vaguely recall different limits for the TV-Go app for Maxit/XL/Mega customers cf those on lower tiers - it's possible a similar rule may apply without being documented.

So when did that change as for the last 18 months have I been able to watch Sky Sports on 2 devices without an issue and now it's only 1? Is this a streaming limitation of having the streambox?

Still in the cooling off period so might look elsewhere for a better deal and then cancel Virgin as this is nonsense seeing as TNT can be viewed on 2 devices at the same time!
