Virgins 250mb speed package retirement

Does anybody know when VM retired the 250mb package, before when they retired speed packages we were moved up to the one taking its place which would have been the 350 as I was looking at what they are charging for different speeds since WITH discount on current account im paying £42 for 250mb when 1g is £39 and I had to fight tooth and nail for even that since dad has his emails with virgin still but I am making him change all his accounts over to his gmail account.

Going by past experiences I should have been moved up to the 350 speed but I have not and I am just wondering when they got rid of that particular speed bundle as I couldn't find anything.

Paying £42 for 250mb after fighting tooth and nail for a discount and been with same company for over 20 years through all the name changes to see this on their website.

I can get symmetrical speeds from Vodafone alone for £30 a month 910Mbps but I am not going to jump through hoops and play silly bgrs with virgin for continued loyalty.

Term in up in August so dad should have his stuff switched over by then I hope.

I looked for new VM Broadband only prices and there is only a M250 VOLT package at £29.50
but again this is for a new sign up.

  • Good spot. M250 is only available as part of a bundle now via the staff discount site Perks at Work too.

I'd like to all ISPs forced to a transparent pricing model where a specified service
is sold at an advertised price at sign-up and thereafter at an advertised & consistent price at renewal.

Supermarkets & petrol stations are not allowed to hike charges based on the cut of your coat or brand of your car, so why should ISP's be permitted to operate so opaquely especially now reliable internet is so important to families.

I'd also like to see it be mandatory for the customer's account to have a CANCEL option, even if that means cancel and pay the contracted early termination fees.

VM are a special offender in this area and appear to have gone out of their way to make it a nightmare to terminate and near impossible to reduce the subscription to fit what may be affordable.

  • I dont know if its just me but has anyone noticed that speed tiers above 100mbps show a picture of the hub 5 whereas before the picture would be of a hub 3 and only the 1gb tier would have the hub 5 in the picture.

I understand that there is indeed a quiet hub upgrade programme going on to replace the 3s and 4s.

I asked the engineer that visited yesterday but all he said was that they dont install hub 4's as theres too many issues with them. It's either hub 3's or hub 5's

  • Whelp, got my answer, called up today and apparently when they grandfather a speed package they don't auto move you onto whats replaced it anymore, just, wow.

Been with them apparently 29 years and I forget how many months.

Also nothing they can do to update the number themselves so id have to get dad to create a new email address somewhere and change it to that just so I can adjust a number so if we decide to cancel the cancellation team that can call will be able to get through.

Really not sure if its worth all the hassle.

They got current home number down as the one you enter when you dial 150, they got my dads number as he gets texts for appointments and whatnot and they have our old number that had to be changed when we were getting nuisance calls so they got 3 numbers on one account for us and the only one they cannot change is the marketing one.
