Sudden appalling website connection speeds

I went to bed last night (Tuesday) and everything was pefectly as it should be. My connection was extremely snappy to use, and the occasional visit to Speedtest.net showed around 380/37 mbps.

This morning everything changed despite the PC not being used overnight. Webpages suddenly take 30 seconds to open, though once they have done so, sub pages load instantly.

Strangely enough the same speedtest.net run still gives 380/37 and I can ping a range of web addresses with a response of 8-12ms. Its just internet browsing thats fubarred....and as I work from home its kinda vital.

Ive been with Virgin for many years and know the packdrill when it comes to service disruptions. Ive power cycled the hub and restarted my PC several times to no avail. In the end I rang VM tech support, but the guy completey didnt grasp the situation and unforunately his english was pretty poor. When he said I had to start disconnecting my wired home network I had to give up in frustration. He didnt understand that I could connect, it had just become intolerably slow.

Any suggestions what could have happened overnight? I did see that Windows had performed a dreaded Cumulative W10 update - could that have done something? I was hoping it was that it might be a problem at the VM end, like a wonky DNS server or something, but tech guy was adamant there were no issues with my equipment

Situations like this make me realise how important my connection is to me. Its pretty perfect 99% of the time, but oh boy that 1% !

Any help greatly appreciated

Had tried Firefox Chrome and Edge with the same result.....however!

About 5 mins after I posted my message a tech friend rang me back after I left him a message. He rememberd I used Avast Premier and had heard their latest update was causing issues. He suggested I turn off their Web Shield and see if it helped.....lo and behold my browser was back to A1 health. Even when I turned the webshield back on it continued to operated as normal

Sorry if I wasted anyome's time but I had a bad day lol......perhaps you could note my problem/solution in case anyone else enquires
