Random speed drops and network status errors

Hi.

I am having issues with my router speeds, it's been an ongoing issue on and off for a while.
Whenever I call Virgin media about it they say everything is working fine and they try to schedule an engineer visit but it's difficult for me to find the time so I end up not booking one.

If I can fix my issues without an engineer it would be preferable, I haven't had issues like this before until the end of last year when I changed from the 250MBPS package to the 350MBPS package.

My issue is this, randomly at times (usually when I try to download something) I will notice that my download speed is well below normal, I only notice this sometimes when I am downloading something because I don't do random speed checks etc. When I do notice this I do a speed test and I see that I am getting between 75-85mbps. At first I would restart or factory reset my router and the speed would return to normal but now even that doesn't work sometimes and I am stuck with slow speeds for an unknown amount of time. I checked the network status page and I am noticing lots of warnings and critical errors in the log, I don't understand it at all and I am not sure if it is linked but I have noticed them almost daily.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it, I use an ethernet cable connected to my PC and also wifi for my iphone, I am the only person who uses it with only them 2 devices connected at all times so it is not an overloading issue. Also, I am sat about 10 feet away from my router most of the time also. Secondly, I also had received a new router around 1 month ago to see if that would fix the issue but it has not.

I will post the network status errors below.

Try checking with Area faults on  0800 561 0061 or if you have a VM landline 150 as small local faults are not listed on the VM status page.

Post the power levels, Pre and PostRS errors and network log from the Hub.  Setup a BQM to monitor your circuit www.thinkbroadband.com/ping  Also run a wired speed test on www.samknows.com/realspeed and post the results. Once done we can comment.

Are you doing the speed test while downloading? That won't give a valid result, because the speed test needs the full bandwidth of your connection.

If anything else is downloading at the same time they will be sharing the bandwidth and both will be slow.

When downloading or uploading your connection may not feel that good for loading web pages that because VM rate limiting will buffer you high latency.

I suggest you set up a BQM

You can manage the flow of traffic better with your own router or high end firewall by QoS/BWM
