Hub4 1GB ports all coming out as 100MB connections

I have a 1GB internet connection but I cannot make use of it as all of a sudden all the 1GB ports are downgraded to 100Mb ports.  Its been perfectly fine over the last few months.  I used to get the odd issue where this would occur and a reboot of the hub would sort it but now no matter what I do all connections come out as 100Mb.  Any suggestions because this is really frustrating now.

First thing to do is to check the Ethernet cable. 100M only needs 4 cores, while 1G needs all 8 cores.

  • This was something thats been working fine for a while, months, but its something that the Virgin Media router just keeps changing on its own but is now no longer negotiating 1GB despite the restarts.  I used to just get away with reseating the cable in the back of the router but not anymore.  The cables from the VM router to downstream devices are all fully populated network ethernet cables.  Tried swapping them out last time around.

Personally I wouldn't use the Hub switch fully populated.  I would only use one port and connect this to a good quality network switch.  All devices would then be connected to this switch. This should segregate any LAN to LAN traffic, and take some of the load off the Hub, which is no bad thing.

Or just get a better router with 1Gb ports or better and use hub in modem mode
