Virgin Media accessible on main road but not our road.

Hi,

I've recently moved into a new flat in a converted house and I'd love to get virgin fibre currently the only broadband suppliers offer FTTC (~60mbs) and my address is listed as inaccessible.

The main road which my road branches off (a gated community area) gets virgin fibre but my road doesn't.

I'm wondering if the inaccessibility was due to lack of access to check the site or if it is actually inaccessible (I can follow the BT lines down to my flat) and if this needs a survey or engineer.

I've checked with the landowner, block and ground management and they're happy for virgin to fit fibre to the building but I'm not sure what I can do, the sales teams have told me its not possible.

Thanks!

VM only install on adopted roads, so if the road is Private they will not entertain it due to needing wayleave from all residents & landowners. I also suspect you are in a legacy cable area. These, like BT are fibre-to-cabinet, with copper coax going to customers. These networks have a finite number of connections that can be used & are not longer being expanded, as newer technology is being retrofitted in these areas. A lot of this new infrastructure is not yet live, so you may be in for quite a wait.

I think VM used to have “spotters” to go out and assess. I’m not sure if this is the case anymore?  Hopefully a VM Mod will pick this up and reply.

Could be a lot of things, ducting not available, not enough capacity, wayleave permissions, flat too high up, not commercially viable etc. etc.  I suspect being in a gated community is not helping either as far as wayleave is concerned?

Thanks for the reply. That's what I'm concerned about. I don't know if the lack of virgin fibre is down to logistics or just access. Everyone I've spoken to is happy to supply access so a wayleave should be something I can get pretty easily.

I just don't know how to get beyond the "your address is not accessible" the sales team quote me.

        Hi JHolmes,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums. ⭐

We're sorry to hear that Virgin Media isn't available in the area. The Sales Teams are able to arrange a spotter to come and survey the area however they're only able to do this if there's a possibility of us being able to install at the address.

As the Sales Team haven't offered this, it's unlikely to be available.

You can register your interest in the services here though. If you get your neighbours to also register, this may provide a high enough interest for the teams to look into the area 😊

        Many thanks,
